BSD Central Calls itself 'the /root for BSD resources'. Has links to many other BSD/UNIX resources as well.
Debian Debian is the work of Debra and Ian Murdock and is now supported by over 800 developers worldwide.
FreeBSD Yet another BSD resource. Free BSD runs on the Alpha and Intel platforms and comes with full source code.
Freshmeat The largest index of Unix and cross-platform open source software on the Internet with original content on technical, political, and social aspects of software and programming as well as discussion boards, bug reports and technical support for the programs listed. Freshmeat is an essential resource for serious developers and users alike.

OpenBSD One of the most bullet-proof flavours of UNIX going, OpenBSD is based on 4.4BSD and it supports binary emulation of most programs from SVR4 (Solaris), FreeBSD, Linux, BSD/OS, SunOS and HP-UX. The current release (2.9) shipped on 1 June 2001. Make sure to check out their colourful box covers and posters.
Security-Enhanced Linux The significantly beefed-up open source offering from the US National Security Agency.
SuSE A German flavour of Unix, SuSE is not completely compatible with Linux but it does come on 7 CDs with loads of add-ons, making for an economically viable alternative for Europeans with cynical telecoms metering local calls.
