STOCKHOLM (Radsoft) -- The Pirate Bay went down today. Some bandwidth providers were threatened with heavy fines and decided to give in.

Word of the shutdown came via Peter Sunde's Twitter feed with a link through to an article at DN.

A decision in the lower court threatened provider Black Internet with SEK 500 K fine.

'We received word right after lunch and turned off our capacity right before 15:00. There are laws and rules in the country we must follow', said Black Internet CEO Victor Möller. 'We haven't talked yet about how we feel about this and what we're going to do after this.'

The lower court demanded that capacity to The Pirate Bay be turned off until the lawsuit by the US film industry is dealt with.

Black Internet are not the only ones supplying The Pirate Bay with bandwidth but they're the only ones being threatened with fines. Victor Möller trusts his company are nevertheless the major provider.

'They're going to switch courses and get their capacity elsewhere but it'll take a while.'

Plaintiffs in the suit against The Pirate Bay are Columbia, Disney, NBC, Paramount, Sony, 20th Century Fox, Warner, and investment company WV. Just over 100 titles are mentioned in the lawsuit including The Simpsons, Family Guy, 24, House, Pirates of the Caribbean, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Body of Lies, and Watchmen.
