Carter & Loopy Dan III

Week of June 5, 2002

(Note: at the time of writing, Radsoft are being harassed in this matter by a Chinese domain, but the connection with earlier events is not known, nor has the attacker been identified.)

Also, it turns out that 'Loopy Dan', whose identity will be revealed below, has quite a history of this kind of harassment, as does Chris Carter, and both are in embarrassing evidence at Google Groups, and again the CEO Kevin Martin had to come in and apologise for Carter's behaviour.

Also, it turns out that the notorious nutter Josh 'tookycat' Straub is involved in this as well. Straub is known for conducting intensive e-mail bomb wars with chat room and news group posters and generally 'losing it'.

What has otherwise transpired up to now is the following.

  • Last evening a spam ostensibly originating from the domain CHSW.COM was destroyed by our e-mail server, and a routine auto responder was sent out.
  • Someone from the CHSW.COM domain - most likely the holder of the domain, Daniel Norton, fired off a very inflammatory reply to our auto responder, claiming the auto responder was some sort of attack (yes you read that right).
  • As the guy was obviously loopy, we told him so. Big thing here: we used the 'f-word'. We called him a 'fucking idiot'. We called him that because he was. Then we destroyed his e-mail, destroyed our own, and went back to work.
  • Loopy Dan continued to flame, but we just manually destroyed all his messages at server level without ever opening or much less reading them. We were done with Loopy Dan, thank you.
  • Loopy Dan writes to our provider's abuse department this morning, whining that we called him the 'f-word'. As luck would have it, the unique Chris Carter caught the incoming message.
  • Chris Carter writes to Radsoft, claiming Radsoft has annoyed poor Loopy Dan.
  • Carter wants Radsoft to retrieve the spam message which caused Loopy Dan to loop out of control and further wants Radsoft to help poor Loopy Dan get to the bottom of his 'spam problem.' Loopy Dan claims the spam message did not originate from his domain, but was possibly an act of revenge by someone who for some totally unknown reason did not like Loopy Dan.
  • Loopy Dan's web site is a single page web site hosted by Hurricane Electric. The chances that Loopy Dan's domain be forged in a spam campaign are therefore less than ever.
  • Loopy Dan does run sendmail, but no attempt has been made to test Loopy Dan's single page web site for relay capabilities.
  • Carter 'bludgeons' as per usual by making the facts fit his bent, claiming his company has had a long networking relationship with Loopy Dan's single web page domain (yes you read that right).
  • After over two hours of this nonsense, Carter suggests writing to Loopy Dan to suggest that if Loopy Dan does not wish any further trouble he just delete all our messages.
  • Radsoft write to the provider CEO and to Hurricane Electric to protest this harassment and indefensible waste of time.

Radsoft will not tolerate interference by Chris Carter, and if past experience be any indication, neither will the provider. Radsoft object to the harassment by Loopy Dan and Chris Carter, and now actively seek 'damages' for this occurrence.

Radsoft are prepared to go 'offline' to preserve integrity in this matter - Radsoft shall not be censored, shall not be bludgeoned - and certainly not for an 'f-word'.

As Carter and Loopy Dan seem to have a well-documented 'history' on the Internet, the incident becomes more and more ridiculous, as does the provider's willingness to again unleash Carter, and Carter's penchant for bludgeoning and bluffing about Loopy Dan.
