Red Hat Diaries/000a

Multimedia

Multimedia... I was in a Gateway Country store and asked the personnel to play a DVD on a box. Any box. They couldn't. They tried several boxes and none of them worked. No matter it was the hardware or hey could it be Billg's operating system? But whatever - Wintels do not work. Get used to it.

Not so in the Apple Orchard. You just slip the DVD in and you're away at the races. It just plays - just like that. After all, it's an appliance, not shiteware. We had The Matrix all set up, but Syd was out early evening and I tested it. The picture quality is awesome, and with Monsoon speakers and woofer it's a cinema experience - no less. Especially the very beginning part with the weird phasing music and the green Warner Bros logo. And how many people have ever noticed the phone number Trinity is calling from or what day it is? She is calling from (312)555 0690 on 19 February 1998 at precisely 13:24:18. The sound itself of course brings back the cinematic experience. Watch Trinity kick the shit out of a copper in the beginning? On VHS it's actually blah-blah. Cute camera trick. Mix in the audio and what comes out of the woofer and you have a work of art. And never unless on DVD can you see what meticulous care went into every frame of that movie. Oh well.

Anyhow, as you can see from the graphic on this page, it's time for bed, and Syd has had a busy day and is a bit under the weather too the poor girl, so I gotta be a good boy and get some sleep too so I can take care of her tomorrow.

But that doesn't mean I can't read an Apple manual or two before I fall off to sleep!
