Red Hat Diaries/000f

Transitions III

Ultimately any work experience is evaluated by its efficiency, and ease of use is great - but you still have to get the job done by five o'clock. Can I get the job done by five o'clock on a Mac? I think so - but it will take time to acclimate.

After all, this is the first day I've ever used a Mac in my life - and things went pretty well, didn't they? Sounds to me like it's testimony to the power of the OS despite all. And for sure, time will tell. And we are now dealing with Unix and not MacOS - we're dealing with one of the two most powerful platforms ever devised for the micro. So it augurs well to say the least. At the end of the day it's a question of what the Apple developers do with it - what Steve Jobs allows them to add on and change.

With NeXTSTEP out there bearing up the weight of the machine, you can hardly have it better - especially when you're considering 'change'. And first day online with a Mac - the first day ever with a Mac - the box told me there was an update of OS X waiting - 10.1.2, which is supposed to be pretty good (and a lot faster). All I do is click. Want it on CD instead? FedEx to your door for $20 in a day or two at the most.

When was the last time Billg offered you something like that?
