Say Hello To My Little Friend

Had I known how much in love I was going to be, my calm would not have lasted until I physically picked up the box. I was overcome. Heart racing, palms sweaty, dizzy, I lifted it from the table and actually felt my pupils dilate. The air got very thick and I was breathless. When we had it in hand and were headed home, I kept thinking that the grin on my face must look truly ridiculous, but I couldn't stop smiling. We stopped at another store on the way and I brought my new pet in with me, feeling both silly and proud whenever I saw someone looking at it.

Finally we were home, and I didn't even wait to get my coat off. In the door, sat on the floor and ripped into the box. The first touch as I lifted it from its packaging felt magical, like Christmas when I was a little kid. I played with it all afternoon until we left for dinner, when all I could think about was going home to play some more. I kept feeling like I should say something profound, but nothing I came up with seemed adequate.

Every night I put it safely under the bed to charge while we sleep, and five days later I love it more.
