Red Hat Diaries/003a

The Streets At SouthPoint

This is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Syd and I were here a week ago and we're still shaking from the experience. The website implores rhetorically 'imagine over 150 stores, all under one roof,' and I comment, rhetorically 'no thank you'. It's ugly, it's BUTT-ugly, it's dehumanising, it's horrible. It's a nightmare, it's Morlock stuff, it's just terrifying and anti-human.

The catch here is that Apple, of all companies, chooses to open in this monstrosity. Their own store, mind you, not an authorised dealer. Apple already has an ace authorised dealer in the area - Tenplus Systems. These people are good. They're people too. No more badge 4196 how may I help you? You know the people who work there by name and if that doesn't make all the difference I don't know what does.

Now Tenplus, a good promoter of Apple for 'ten plus' years, is being threatened by Apple. As thanks for doing their bit all this time, Apple opens a monster store in a most inhuman part of the world, layers and layers of horrid alienating concrete everywhere - but where will all the doofi go?

Listen to the street gab.

'Have you been to Southpoint yet? Isn't it fantastic?'

Me, I just want to throw up. But I have to wait a bit, because Syd is in the loo doing it herself.

And dammit, but if anything is sacred in this world, then people will thank Tenplus for a good ten years and avoid that idiot's new store in Southpoint.
