The good, the bad - and the very ugly.

Part Three: The Very Ugly

Evidence-Eliminator

The new reigning world champion, dislodging FuelCDP from the top spot. The product isn't that bad - a VB bloat monster to be sure, doing more damage to your Registry than almost anything else you'll ever run across - but it's the unparalled lack of marketing ethics which make this the pariah of the Internet right now. Click the link above to read the ultimate review of Evidence Eliminator.

FuelCDP

Should be at the top of all lists. The Mother of All Insults. The ultimate Blütkopf Application, candidate for Kelvin's Titanium Cranium Award. This guy takes Bjarne's re-use idea and shows you just how ridiculous it really is. This is the epitomy of what can go wrong in the industry - from the end user side of things.

Bill Buckels Software Engineer

If the expression 'caveat emptor' doesn't apply to use of latter-day commercial software, the Romans should have spoken Greek instead. This is the one arena where its letters should be etched in stone and their meaning burning in a blazing fire.

Lockdown2000
Michael Paris

Introducing a whole new software category: the rip-off program. Is it poorly written, is it buggy? That's not the issue. What's happening here is that the people behind this product are trying to produce fear and hysteria to sell it and making false claims as to its functionality. Let the buyer beware.

RegClean
Microsoft Corporation

This one cleans your Registry, and for some (primarily on 9x) it seems to work ok. But what about engineering? Follow the link above for one of the most dramatic exposes on bloat in the industry today.

As software engineering, RegClean is a disgrace. And why? Because these guys definitely know better - or should: Despite the link above being rather well publicized, Microsoft has made no attempt to clean the application and change the download image found at Beverly Hills. It's still the same monster they uploaded in January of 1998 - four years ago.

ZoomLens
Barefoot Productions

Follow the link above and read all about a consummate rip off artist and a poor programmer at that.
